Speed Camera Taxation Is Coming!

On recommendation from Sheriff Millholand the Board of Supervisors will be holding a public hearing on December 11th, 2024 to review and recommend the adoption of Speed Cameras to enforce the speed limit in school zones.
On review of the proposal and surveys performed by the vendor, Blue Line Solutions, they alarming claim that 520,000 cars are speeding every day in our most sacred school zones. After FOIA review of the survey reports for each school, it is clear that they are incentivized to over state the problem, and therefore will also over ticket our population using their poorly maintained and configured camera systems.
The citations issued by Blue Line will only require a Sheriff's deputy to log in to the vendors portal and click on each recommended citation. There is no witness, accuser or burden of proof beyond the license plate number in the photograph for you to receive a citation. If a citizen wishes to fight the $100 citation they must spend more money and time off work to hire a lawyer, pay court fees, and somehow convince the judge that the ticket was improperly issued. The low cost and lack of points compared to the time spent disputing the citation is the motivator to drastically raise revenue for the county at the expense of the residents.
All of the school zones surveyed do not have cross walks where children are at risk of being run over by speeding motorists, as one of our esteemed Supervisors claimed at the November BOS meeting. Instead they are at intersections with traffic lights and along school entrances where turn lanes are available for the busses and parents to enter the schools safely to drop students off.
Speed cameras are a proven way to raise revenue while creating a traffic bubble around speed camera zones.
They want to scare us by using our children as pawns in enabling the Sheriff's office to add an oppressive and regressive taxation scheme on our residents, all the while Blue Line Solutions will chant cha-ching $$$ with each new photo taken!
